"Will the public conclude that his policies worked, however much they may cost and however much they may entail more government intervention in the economy? Or will they regard his agenda as intrusive and ineffective big government? What steps may Obama take to alleviate public discontent over these first-year decisions?"

I personally don't think Obama has done that bad, considering the shape the country was in when he took over. He can't just snap his fingers and make things better over night, things take time. I think the country was waiting for him to magically make the economy better. Although I wouldn't agree with some of his decisions, such as the Iraqi war situation, he hasn't been the worst. I think Bush drove this country so far into the ground that it's gonna take a while to revive it. On the other hand I do feel he has beat around the bush on some things, such as the war. I realize it's a big decision, but you have to eventually make one, not give a speech on your decision and your decision is to think about it some more, that's not a decision. I also think he needs to spend more time worrying about bigger problems than having a beer with the police officer and man who thought he was attacked "because he was black"....really? what year are we living in??? I do think the funniest quote of the year 2009 should go to Obama for his comment on Kanye West, I loved it, as Kanye is, in my opinion, one of the biggest jackasses in the history of jackasses. That being said we will see what the coming year brings us.
ReplyDeleteI am not an Obama fan at all. This country was in a mess when he came into office I will admit. However, I find it troubling that so many people that he is connected to have such questionable actions and past. All of the extremes from the Rev Wright, to the ones that don't pay their taxes, to the ones that are racist themselves and so on and so on...I resent the whole healthcare issue. I dont need big government making decisions for me and my healthcare choices. Helping people is great, lets work on fixing that program and helping the ones that need it not changing everyone's plans. All of the bailout money for the big banks was crazy and more dirty politics. Fannie, Freddie, Citi, Chase, BOA, and Countrywide all make my stomach hurt. Currently I have been working with homeowners losing their homes and 5 families now think they are getting one of the famous Obama modifications. They were lied to and mislead. They were told not to pay for 90 days, then make 3 months reduced pymts with the understanding your due date won't advance and then we will consider you for a modification. Instead those 5 houses were being foreclosed on and the borrowers heard it for the first time by me calling because I noticed it in the newspaper. This is the type of crap that we are not allowing, not to mention these big banks are using our tax payer dollars to do this. How about those closed door meetings that no one can hear? I believe Mr. Obama said when he was running for office that CSpan should be in there so everyone could have knowledge and work together. Where is CSpan now? Confused yet? Me too, can't seem to figure it out. Does Obama run Washington or is it Pelosi? On the way he has handled the foreign countries I am just as aggrevated at that. He has shown a weak hand to the wrong ones. On the other hand he is also rude and disresepctful. Some of those meetings he arrived late as if everyone must bend down and kiss his feet because wow...Mr. Obama has arrived. He is not so special. I hate the way he changes who he is for the audience that is listening to him. Pay attention and listen to the comments and attitude if he is speaking to groups like NAACP and BlackPanthers vs other groups. Funny how comments by others in regards to race he takes offensive but Mr. Reid gets a free pass because he is in the pocket of Obama. Double standards is not right. If we continue to allow Obama and Pelosi to act the way they have, we will end up like a Socialist country with the government deciding when, how much and if services and care are available for you. I say no to big governement. Massachutes thrilled me last night!
ReplyDeleteConsidering how our country has been poorly managed through the Bush administration, I think Obama is doing fairly well. I think that since he was actually brave enough to take on the mistakes of recent presidents, he will lead our country into a better way of life. Nothing that major has been changed yet but he hasn't really been in office that long. Once he gets he "groove" on I'm sure he will become one of the few presidents that America actually likes.
ReplyDeleteWhen did Obama address the Black Panthers?
ReplyDeleteI think considering the mess President Obama stepped into, he has done a decent job. That being said I am biased because I am pro-big government. I support policies such as universal healthcare. Issues such as the automotive and banking bailouts have me torn, however I realize that those situations had no easy solution and I believe no matter what had been done, people would have been upset. I look forward to seeing what the next year of the President's term will bring.
ReplyDeleteI was referring to the actions of the Black Panthers during the elections on voting day. I don't recall any stateents from Obama. If our country thinks that having that situation was ok, we are in trouble. He should have took a stand on that if he was so interested in uniting the people of this country. How about the whole Acorn situtation? Love those hidden cameras and the situations that was were brought out to the public. I still cant believe we allowed our tax payer dollars to go to that organization. I don't recall Obama jumping in to handle that situation either. What bothers me the most is the lack of concern for all people, it seems as though this administration picks and chooses who is accountable based on their relationship with Obama and not what is right or wrong regardless of who the person is. Hope I am not talking to much on your blog. These topics get e going and I love this.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the article, I am not surprised that the only real thing O'bama has done is make his rich political friends, even richer than they already are, with his economic stimulas package. I have to admit, the economy was in not that great of shape when he came into office, but the answer to the problem was not make us more in debt. And how about those jobs he promised us, he has not created any, in fact, with his health care plan he is proposing, our country will be more in debt. And we will be left with the tab. As for this article, The Washington Post did a great job in adding fluff to the article because O'bama has not done anything for me.
ReplyDeleteIt is helpful if you use a "handle" that is recognizable.
ReplyDeleteThe ACORN thing was definitely an embarrassment for the organization. However, if one only watches FOX News one gets a pretty one-sided view of the matter. There have been two investigations into ACORN which essentially find no criminal wrongdoing on their part. Of course, Republicans don't like the group because they essentially work to assist groups that tend to vote Democratic.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that these reports didn't get near the play that the videos got. Obviously, the videos were far more sensational. (Though heavily edited).

Actually, the CBO projects that the HR bill would have a positive effect on the federal budget deficit.

I think that after 1 year in office Obama has done fairly well considering what he faced once he was elected. With his policies he has allowed for new jobs to be created and helped the economy stabilize somewhat. The public views of previous presidents such as Reagan as referenced in the article show that while support may be lower now after his first year that depending on how his policies work or fail in the longer term will really be the only way to judge how he has done in his first year. I think that the alleviation could happen if Obama takes steps to further improve the economy without such large spending.
ReplyDeleteI believe we elected President Obama so we could find change. In my opinion change is gradual, and will take more than one year for that dream to become a reality. If the health care plan can be passed than it will be a huge leap in his progress toward the change he has promised. When Bush left office it was a mess. Our current president is cleaning that mess, but will need help from congress and us as American citizens.
ReplyDeleteOne year after being President I think Obama has done a great job. Do take into consideration I am a Republican. The stimulus bail out... was a good idea, until the companies you bailed out used that money for C.E.O bonuses. If he gave that much to them, obviously he should have told them how they had to spend it. National Healthcare, good idea until the overall quality of our healthcare starts to plummit. Why not put restrictions on what insurance companies can do and how much they can charge. Just try to make it affordable instead of making it for everyone. Don't get me wrong, everyone should be able to have health insurance, but not if you just sit at home for it. WORK! The jobs he created, great. But most of them pay minimum wage and you have to work two jobs just to get buy...
ReplyDeleteI do watch a lot of Fox news but I also watch other news as well. Funny but true....I have always been a Democrate until this last election. This adinistartion is too far left for me.
